Firefox Browser Modifying

Firefox Browser Modifying

Ok, its no secret..Firefox is my one of the favorite browser.. infact, if you are not using it (for example using... Opera, IE) you need to change. Well I decided to write an article on how to "hack" Firefox to make it even better. Using a few tweaks here and there, we can make FireFox considerably faster, enable advanced tab options, make newer versions compatible with older extentions, run directly from a flash disk, and on and on.

First, Lets change some hidden options to make it faster...

Open Firefox and in the address bar type: about:config

1. Find browser.tabs.showSingleWindowModePrefs and double click on it so it = true
2. Find network.http.pipelining and double click on it so it = true
3. Find network.http.pipelining.maxrequests double click on it and change it from 4 to 100

What do these changes do?
1. Then enables advanced tab options in your Tools/Options page
2. This enables option #3.
3. This makes FF use 8 threads to each page.. Bascially, if you thought FF was fast before, try it after this.

Second, lets make it look better...

Visit the Mozilla Firefox theme page and select a theme that looks good to you. Choose one that looks good to you.

Now lets make it work FOR us...

One of the sweetest thing about Firefox is the ability to use extensions. At the time of this writing, there are 8842 extentions that we can use to make it better.. I will show you the TOP 5 extensions according to me.

5. AutoCopy (clipboard helper)

Prevent blisters on your Ctrl+C fingers with AutoCopy, a super-simple extension that does exactly what it promises - transfers text to the clipboard as soon as it's highlighted. AutoCopy also remembers past clipboard contents items, can append text to the existing clipboard, or open wrapped URLs on a web page in a new tab.

4. CustomizeGoogle (Google enhancer)

What could you possibly want to customize about your favorite Google apps? A whole lot, actually. With CustomizeGoogle installed, you can:

* Remove ads from Google search results
* Add links to results from other search engines
* Anonymize Google's query tracking cookies
* Remove Gmail's Spam folder and invite box
* Automatically use Gmail and GCal's secure connection
* Filter out the sites you never want to see again from Google's search results

3. Firebug (web development helper)

Probably the geekiest of all 10 picks - and mostly of interest to web monkeys - the Firebug web development extension gives you a peek under the current web page's hood and gives you the tools to take apart the gears. Browse and edit HTML and CSS markup and watch live previews of your changes as you type. Firebug can help you track down script errors and monitor network usage of page element downloads. (Honorable mention: Web Developer toolbar is also a favorite of mine.)

2. FireFTP (FTP client)

Sure you can browse FTP sites with vanilla Firefox, but if you want the full range of FTP capabilities without installing a separate client, you want FireFTP. FireFTP offers a two-paned interface that lets you browse and transfer files between the remote server and your local computer.

1. Greasemonkey (site-specific script manager)

Customize the appearance and add enhanced features to the web sites you love with the Greasemonkey Firefox extension, a user script manager that can automatically run custom Javascript on certain web sites. What kind of scripts, you ask? Here are a few examples of what can be done with Greasemonkey:

* Access your Gmail and Google Calendar securely (over SSL) automatically
* Remove excessive !!! exclamation!!!! points!!!!!!!! from web page text, like your teen's MySpace postings
* Resize textareas to your liking
* Preview full-size images in Google search
* Embed a PLAY button next to music files linked on the web

There are new Greasemonkey user scripts coming out all the time, and with the extension installed, you too can try them out.

(This are the TOP 5 add-ons according to me,I will tell my favourite TOP 10 add-ons on my future posts)
