Cannot View SHTML File From Your Computer Locally

SHTML is an extension for web pages that contain server side includes meaning that the content can be inserted dynamically in the web pages. Prior to Windows XP, viewing of SHTML pages locally was enabled by default. But Windows XP does not enable the viewing of SHTML pages by default. So if you try to open a SHTML web page, it will give you an error. Here’s how you can enable the viewing of SHTML and all dynamic content pages locally:
Go to Internet Explorer –> Tools –> Internet Options –> Advanced
Make sure the following is checked:
“Allow active content to run in files on My Computer”
