Browse Gmail offline: Gmail Labs

If you are a Gmail User and Don,t have a broadband connection in your Home, than there is good new for you from Google. Google has introduced a new feature for Gmail users to allow them to access their email offline. Announced on the Google blog you will be able to cache your messages on your computer using Google Gears.

A user will be able to open a browser and point it to gmail.com and have acess to their emails and be able to edit, read, and even write emails but they will not send until the user connects back to the Internet.

The system is beta (of course) and accessible through Gmail Labs. But it won’t be immediately available to everyone – Google is parsing out access as it experiments with the new feature. Once you see it, just follow these steps to get started:
  1. Click Settings and click the Labs tab.
  2. Select Enable next to Offline Gmail.
  3. Click Save Changes.
  4. After your browser reloads, you’ll see a new “Offline0.1” link in the upper righthand corner of your account, next to your username. Click this link to start the offline set up process and download Gears if you don’t already have it.
